By BBN Staff: The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) says that plans are being finalized for a series of training sessions for service sector personnel this year.
BTIA Executive Director, John Burgos, explained that the association is currently finalizing the calendar for the trainings, which will begin following the end of the tourism high season.
Burgos said that many of the trainings will be done in collaboration with the Mexican Embassy in Belize as per a cooperation agreement signed in August 2018. Through the agreement, Mexico and Belize agreed that the focus of the agreement could be realized through the facilitation for the organization of training courses organization of workshops and conferences promotion of students and/or junior staff exchange programs.
The areas of training in the agreement included, but are not limited to sustainable tourism; human resources training focused on the tourism sector; gender equality and women empowerment; customer service; front line staff training (front desk, receptionist); waiting and housekeeping staff training; chef training-beginner, intermediate and advanced levels; and tour guides training.
Burgos said that beginning the trainings at the end of the high season will give the parties enough time to make all the necessary preparations as some Belizeans will be headed over to Mexico for training while some Mexicans will be coming to Belize.
