By BBN Staff: On 12 August, Muhammad Ibrahim, Director General of CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Centre) and Kenrick Leslie, Executive Director of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) in Belize, signed a letter of understanding to develop and promote climate change adaptation and/or mitigation strategies for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The agreement provides for the development of joint proposals to secure resources to enhance possibilities for collaboration; assistance in the implementation of research and development programs; and the execution of training programs and activities for professionals, officials, and producers.

During the signing of this letter of understanding it was used to discuss other relevant areas and joint collaborative actions, where it was agreed to work on a proposal for the Green Climate Fund and on ecosystem-based adaptation issues, as well as on training on issues related to synergies between adaptation and mitigation to climate change.

Other members of the CCCCC participated in the signing of the agreement, such as Ulric O’D Trotz, Adjunct Director and Scientific Advisor.

Also, CATIE’s General Director was accompanied by Gale Garnett, member of CATIE’s Board of Directors, who served as a witness in the signing of the letter of understanding.
