Oliver Samuels Headlines ‘Frenemy’ – a Live Show Comedy – in Belize!
If you don’t know what a ‘Frenemy’ is, then the comedian extraordinaire Oliver Samuels will tell you what it is. The Jamaican king of comedy is in Belize to put off a three-night play, called ‘Frenemy,’ inside the Bliss. Samuels, who is no stranger to the Belizean stage, will be performing with some local talents. Today, we caught up with the star to talk about ‘Frenemy’ and what the Belizean public can expect from the man himself.
Oliver Samuels, Comedian
“Frenemy – the word is a combination of part of Friend and part of Enemy. Frenemy is that person you trust wholeheartedly with your life and then only to discover that he has been stabbing you left, right and center, back and front.”
“Was this story, this play, inspired by any true experience for you?”
“Kind of but you know with a little garnishing, embellishment, yes.”
“What can the public expect from your play?”
“The Belizean public can expect wholesome family comedy of two hours of almost non-stop laughter. That is what I am brining. And you know what is exciting, I am working with Belizeans. I am the only foreigner working on that script this time so the experience is going to be even more fantastic.”
“Will there be elements that they can relate to?”
“Every ounce of it. You have friendship, you have loyalty, deception, child abuse – so every element of it they are going to. You are not seeing no different version. You seeing that same Oliver. A little younger yes but the same Oliver. (laughs) I want to tell them to eat, let them food digest, belch and then come to the show at seven o’clock on Thursday, Friday and Saturday because it is going to be laughter, laughter and more laughter. And they are coming to see me from outside of Belize – I am like an adopted son of Belize – and their own Belizean performers working together in love and harmony and giving them a whole lot of fun.”
The play is being put on by Jankunu Productionz. The show kicks off at seven p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You can get your tickets at the Bliss.
